the review of the article "How To Be A Super-Achiever: The 10 Qualities That Matter"

After reading the article How To Be A Super-Achiever: The 10 Qualities That Matter, there are many qualities relevant to us pretty much. One of them is Listening And Remaining Open. The case of Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh shows that to be a good listener is the key to succeed. As a Super-Achiever, the best way is to listen to others’ advice. When listening to your employee, you can know what you need to know and the demand of your employees. The other way is to listen and get tips from personal experience of the people who is already successful. These two different ways cause many people debating. However, both two ways have their advantages and both can make complete each other. During our studying and working times, we often faced difficulties or problems that we can’t deal with. We didn't have enough experiences to find the best solution. Listening and remaining open can help us fit these problems. Even though others won't solute those problems instead of us, they can provide their experiences and their valuable suggestions to us. After analysing the suggestions that we have been given, we will find the solutions by our own. Besides, listening and  remaining open can help to correct errors, or to simply check that all your minds are useful. Frankly speaking, others' advice is a good  reference to help us to be a super-achiever.

Though I think this is a good article with some quotations of their interview of achiever, I can’t agree with some ideas in it.  Actually, I don’t really know or agree with the definition about the super-achiever.  In my opinion, achievement or success can be different in everyone’s mind that means there is no accurate definition about them.  Also, some of their interviewees cannot be classified as the super-achievers but as achievers because I even don’t know them as an international student.  In addition, there have already been various theories about success, but success is unable to be copied. Sometimes, if you want to follow the step of the success, you may be more and more far away from the success. Everyone has his/her own ways to be success.  However, it is not bad for us to know some good qualities to help us, such as intelligent persistence and managing emotions.  I usually consider persistence as the most important qualities to succeed.  Also, I agree that people should know how to persist in a right way which means intelligent.  Persistence always cannot be wrong, but if you keep your persistence in a right way or aspects, you can be more successful than in a wrong way.  Otherwise, managing emotions is also an important quality.  To my point of view, EQ is sometimes more important than IQ.  A good emotional management is vital, especially for the business people.  I need to learn how to manage my emotions in the future.  In conclusion, it is a good article and I learned something from it.

Conflict

Conflict usually happens in group work and cannot avoid by everyone. When people have different opinions or ideas, conflict will occur. It is hard to say if conflict is good or not because conflict has both advantages and disadvantages in group work. Some people think conflict is good because it can help group work better. For example, people in groups will come out different opinions.Through conflicts they can discuss and choose the best option.  On the other hand, conflict also has negative aspects in group. Some people are individualistic and always conflict with others. It will cause emotional issue and harm to the group. This is the aspect that we have to avoid.  In conclusion, we should have a positive attitude to conflicts and treat them well.

Conflict
Conflict is a really important part of our lives because it can happen anywhere and anytime.  After the lecture about the cross-culture conflict yesterday, I learn a lot about how to deal with conflicts.  The first theory is about 5 basic human needs.  For example, in some countries, some conflicts are so strong because it is related to the food and water which are the basic needs for people’s surviving.  It is hard to deal with these kinds of conflicts; it is the bottom of people’s lives.  Another interesting theory is about the iceberg.  The outcome of a conflict is always about what we do or see, but it is not the most important things in conflicts, what we need to do are to find why the conflicts happen.  In my opinion, it is really helpful for us to know this theory because sometimes, it seems that we deal with the conflicts but actually we don’t.  We just resolve what the conflict is but if we don’t know why, conflicts may happen again and again.

society’s expectations

Paragraph of society’s expectations of behavior toward the disadvantaged
With the development of social economy, the issues of society’s expectations of behavior toward the disadvantaged have become increasingly prominent. In the past time, they are treated with unfair ways and discriminated by others. Because of philanthropysocietal expectations about the disadvantaged should advocate protection, equality, and helpfulness. First, people need to protect the the basic rights of disadvantaged. The most useful ways is policy. Laws and rules need to be setted up for the disadvantaged which can help them avoid getting physical and psychological injured. On the other hand, people also need to have a equal treatment to disadvantaged groups. Laws and rules should punish the people who is malevolent to the disadvantaged. In order to be more effective,  people need be educated with positive concept instead of  antiquated concept which is callous. In addition, they also should be given equal social rights in many areas such as finding jobs and getting salaries. Sometimes, they need more opportunities than others because they are always unconcerned. Moreover, people need be  more helpful for the disadvantaged. Disadvantaged groups are poor, lack of education, no background and even have physical or mental problems. People need to give them more care and help to make them work and live well. Problems related to the disadvantaged groups cannot be solved overnight, but it is concerned that under the joint effort of the government and the community, basic rights of the disadvantaged groups can be ensured. A harmonious society is definitely to be achieved in the future.

Societal expectations to the disadvantaged

Societal expectations always have unprecedented impact to everyone, especially to the disadvantaged.  The reason why we have to be influenced by the societal expectations is that we care so much about others’ thinking of us.  To the normal people, the societal expectations are that they should do something benefits the society, their family or their own.  On the other hand, to the disadvantaged, because of their observantly intuition, societal expectations always impact more on them.  Most people are not callous and they think even though the disadvantaged cannot do a lot benefits to the society, we still need to help them.  In my opinion, society’s expectations of behavior toward the disadvantaged should be based on three aspects.  First, society’s expectations should be based on respect.  Most of the disadvantaged feel themselves inferior, if they can feel the respect from the public, it can help them build self-confidence.  For example, the disabled can do all work they can do in Canada.  It is a good way to make the disadvantaged benefit to the society and build their self-confidence.  Second, people should be tolerant on the behaviors of the disadvantaged.  For example, when some old people do things very slowly, we should be patient; when some patients who have mental problems do something strange, we should also be tolerant.  Third, the public should do their best to help them.  Sometimes, if we can help the disadvantaged, they can also help the society too.  Though most of the disadvantaged cannot do great many for the society, we still need to help them because we don’t want to be ignored when someday we become one of the disadvantaged.  In Canada, the government has already done a lot.  For example, the buses have the wheel chair area for the disabled; the disabled have special parking zone; all the public building have automatic door to make the disabled and the elder people convenient.  How the public treat the disadvantaged can reflect the society’s ethical concept.

Commend Movies

The Shawshank Redemption: In the late 1940s, a little accomplished young banker, Andy, was thrown into jail because of murdering his wife and her lover. In this movie named The Shawshank Redemption, hope seemed elusive. Punishment of life imprisonment doomed Andy`s life gloomy despair. No longer, Andy try to close to the prisoners in the prestigious, Rhett , and want him to help him get a small hammer. In this case, Andy also seemed to be in good and evil people mixed up. Life in prison of confusion made him find his own way of survival. He took advantage of its professional knowledge to help prison management for tax evasion and money laundering. At the same time Andy contacted with Rhett, who is well-received among prisoners. Surface, it seems that he took easy for the jail life, but the longing for freedom are still prompted him to advance the goals and hope in the heart. And the truth about his crimes, seems to make it all move forward one step further. In my opinion of this movie, talent and perseverance will make people reach their goals.

Forrest Gump: "Life is like a box of chocolates, Forrest. You never know what you're going to get. " is the sentence that Forrest’s mother told him.  It is just like Forrest’s life, that you never know what will happen.  Forrset Gump is a person whose IQ is under 75 which mean he has mental retardation, but he has done some things in his whole life, such as becoming an excellent football player, a hero in Vietnam War, and a millionaire, that is superior to most general people.  The reason why Forrest becomes such a successful person is that he is an honest, earnest, friendly and brave person.  In his whole life, we can see that he is always running which help him running into the football team, running into the university and saving his and his partners’ lives in Vietnam War.  After I saw this film, I learn a lot about Forrest and his spirit.  “You have to do the best with what God gave you.”  I think everyone can’t complain to their talent and need to do their best in their lives.

The Qualities of a Good Presentation

A good presentation always includes four significant qualities which are purpose, information, persuasion and entertainment.

First of all, a good presentation must have its own purposes, like an essay has its thesis statement. Purpose is the most important factor because everything in the presentation is supportive of the purpose.

Second, information is also a vital part of a good presentation.  The information must be clear and logical.  If the information is not clear or logical, it is easy for the audience to be confused about your presentation which makes the presentation worse.  Also, the information need to be relevant to the presentation at all and not be too complicated so that your audience should be able to comprehend the subject matter by listening to you speak about it.  Information is always important because it is all you show to your audience.

Third, the art of persuasion is also important when you do a presentation.  For example, facing to your audience is a good way to show your confidence in your presentation which means more persuasive to your audience.  Body language is also a good way to help you to make the presentation more persuasive.

Finally, entertainment can attract audience's attention when you do a presentation.  In some situation, entertainment is a good way to make your audience focus on the presentation all the time.  It is clear that a well informative but boring presentation can't well achieve your purpose because your audience might miss some information when they feel boring.
